Guide to buying floggers

There are many different types of floggers on the market today, such as Rose Tip Cat o’Nine Tails, Straight Tail Suede Floggers, Heavy Duty Loop Tail Suede Floggers and even Horse Hair Floggers, so we are often asked "What sort of flogger should buy?"

Well here is a guide to help you decide...

I’m a newbie to Impact Play, what’s a good flogger for a beginner?

If you are new to floggers, we’d recommend starting with one of our Straight Tail or Thuddy Loop Tail Suede Floggers

The suede floggers have a softer, more thuddy impact rather than the "whip" of a Riding Crop or the "slap" of a Paddle or Tawse.

The Straight Tail suede floggers have a bit of a "flick" on the end of the tails which does sting a little, but the Loop Tail floggers are almost pure thud, they have a deep impact which penetrates down into the skin and muscle rather than the impact of a cane or crop which has more effect on the surface of the skin.

These floggers can have a very sensuous feeling as the impact tends to radiate throughout the surrounding tissue and muscle, hitting with a soft thump, but not causing bruising unless applied vigorously.

Alternatively we have our Elk Hide Floggers.

Elk Hide is very soft and sensuous, not quite as soft as Deer Skin, but lightweight and gentle. It's great if you want to give the effect of flogging someone but with very little intensity.

You can get a bit of a flick out of the end of the falls, however because they're so light, the sensation is enjoyable, rather than uncomfortable.

I want a flogger that’s good for warming up

For a tingly sensation and something that’s good for warm-ups we suggest one of our Horse Hair Floggers

Horse Hair has a unique sensation and is amazingly versatile. You can start off by gently brushing it across the skin with a soft caress, then start to build up very slowly, just sweeping the tails across the body. This starts to make the skin tingle and is excellent for warming it up as it brings the blood towards the surface and encourages the brain to create endorphins (the body’s natural pain killers) which allows greater enjoyment of strong sensations.

Once you’ve got the skin warmed up you can flick the ends of the tails back and forth or use the length of the tails for a more solid hit.

I’m fairly experienced with floggers and want something more intense

For the more experienced players (or people who want some sting) there are the Leather or Suede Cat o’Nine Tails

Cat o’Nine Tails come in different varieties, for instance our ones have thin, medium or thick leather tails depending on whether you want a fun, flicky sensation, a medium sting or a hard impact!

We also have the leather or suede Rose Cats which start off thuddy, but can build up to a good thwack...

I want to take the intensity up a notch...

For players who want to increase the intensity (or those who like a lot of Thwack) there are the Rose Tipped Cats o’Nine Tails.

The Rose Cats come in Red, Black or Black and Purple Leather as well as a soft Red Suede version.

The Red Rose Tip Flogger is one of our most popular items, simply because it looks absolutely beautiful as well as having a very enjoyable effect.

We describe this effect as Thwack, because it combines the Thud of the Suede Floggers with the Sting of Leather, to give a sensation that not only gives a slap on the surface of the skin, but the weight drives the impact down into the lower tissues as well, for a wonderfully intense sensation.

We also have the Black Leather Rose Tip Flogger for your darker moods or for the Goths amongst our customers.

The third version of the Cats is the Red Suede Rose Tip Flogger. This toy, being made from suede, doesn't have the surface sting of the other two, but it makes up for it with a wide-spread Thud sensation from the nine Red Suede Roses on the tips of the falls.

I’ve had a lot of experience with floggers and want something really intense. What have you got?

Probably our most intense floggers are the Two Tone Wood-Handled Leather Flogger, the Heavy Weight Leather Cat o’Nine Tails and, finally, the Gold Leather Long-Handled Cat o’Nine Tails

As the name suggests, the Wood-Handled Leather Flogger has a grip made of alternating light and dark layers of wood, laminated together, then polished and varnished to look fantastic.

The Flogger itself, is made from 15mm x 2mm strands of leather cut to an angled point.

Next we have the Heavy Weight Cat o’Nine Tails, the falls of which are 10mm wide by 2.8mm thick leather.

Both of these have an intense sting to their impacts.

Finally, the most stingy of all is the Gold Leather Long-Handled Cat o’Nine Tails.

This Cat may look lovely with its unusual gold leather construction, but that belies the sharp sting you can get from the ends of the tails when you use the length of the handle to apply leverage to your stroke.

All of these last three are definitely for serious players only...!
